The Tampa Multi-Modal Network and Safety Improvement Project consists of 6 unique segments that combine to create a new, 12.2-mile active transportation corridor that celebrates the Hillsborough River, providing enhanced connectivity, safety, livability, and economic opportunity for downtown and its surrounding neighborhoods.

Segment 1
Segment 1 - Platt to Brorein

Platt Street and Brorein Street
This 0.2-mile segment consists of two new pedestrian underpass bridges and a newly constructed multi-use trail from Bayshore Boulevard (immediately south of the Platt Street Bridge) north to the existing Arabelle Riverwalk (just north of the Brorein Street Bridge). This segment links Bayshore to Tony Jannus Park and north to the Arabelle Riverwalk Apartments*.
Key features of this segment include:

Wide (15-foot clear width) pedestrian underpass bridges under Platt and Brorein Streets -
15-foot wide multi-use concrete trail and pedestrian overlook at Tony Jannus Park -
“Dark Skies” friendly trail lighting
Future portions of the Riverwalk will be completed by private developers, not specifically part of this project.

Segment 2
Segment 2 - Kennedy to Rome

Kennedy Boulevard to Rome Avenue
The longest segment of the project consists of a 1.5-mile contiguous, multi-use trail that begins at Plant Park’s existing brick plaza that abuts seawall and ends at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Complex at Rome Avenue. This segment runs along the west side of the Hillsborough River linking key destinations and public spaces including Plant Park, the University of Tampa, Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park, Tampa Preparatory School, Tampa River Center, Blake High School, Stewart Middle Magnet School, the planned Rome Yard Development*, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Complex (between N. Rome Avenue to North Oregon Avenue).
Key features of this segment include:

New and widened 12 foot multi-use concrete trail with brick banding, lighting, benches, and new trees -
Living shoreline including “habitat panels” and crushed shell public overlooks at Tampa Preparatory and Blake High Schools -
New sidewalk connections to West Green Street under I-275 -
Native ornamental landscaping and “Dark Skies” friendly trail lighting
This segment will be completed by the developer of the Rome Yard project

Segment 3
Segment 3 - Platt

Rome Avenue to Bayshore Boulevard
This segment consists of approximately 1.1 miles of complete street improvements including resurfacing the existing pavement along Platt Street from South Rome Avenue east to Bayshore Boulevard. This segment will provide a dedicated, low-stress connection from Rome Avenue through Hyde Park to the riverfront.
Key features of this segment include:

Resurfacing of existing pavement throughout corridor -
New sidewalk improvements -
Separated, one-way eastbound protected, cycle track along the southside Platt Street -
New, fully protected intersection separating cyclists and pedestrians from vehicles at Platt Street and Bayshore Boulevard -
New high emphasis crosswalks, beacons, curb extensions, refuge islands, and green pavement markings to increase safety and driver awareness at key intersections, side streets, and other conflict points -
Marked on-street parallel parking -
Americans with Disability Act (ADA) enhancements -
Preservation and/or reuse of historic, granite curbing
Segment 4
Segment 4 - Rome

Platt Street to Kennedy Boulevard, and W. Cass Street to W. Columbus Drive
This segment consists of approximately 1.3 miles of complete street improvements including resurfacing the existing pavement along Rome Avenue from West Platt Street north to West Columbus Drive*. This segment will provide a dedicated, low-stress connection for the West Tampa neighborhoods south to Hyde Park and east to the riverfront.
Key features of this segment include:

Resurfacing of existing pavement throughout corridor -
Full depth roadway reconstruction between Green Street and W. Main Street, including intersections -
New bicycle lanes and sections of protected, two-way cycle tracks -
New and improved sidewalks -
New high emphasis crosswalks, beacons, curb extensions, refuge islands, and green pavement markings to increase safety and driver awareness at key intersections, side streets, and other conflict points -
Newly installed canopy and understory trees throughout corridor -
Marked on-street parallel parking -
Improved access management -
Americans with Disability Act (ADA) enhancements -
Preservation and/or reuse of historic, granite curbing
This segment will be completed by the developer of the Rome Yard project
Construction previously completed by others
* Project excludes the recently completed resurfacing and improvements along Rome Avenue between Kennedy Boulevard and Cass Street.
Segment 5
Segment 5 - Columbus: Rome to North Boulevard

Rome Avenue, Columbus Drive
This segment consists of 0.2 miles of complete street improvements along Columbus Drive from North Rome Avenue to North Boulevard to supplement Hillsborough County’s future resurfacing project of the corridor, CIP #: 69691105.* This segment provides a new, low-stress linkage between the existing East Riverwalk and Ridgewood Park neighborhood to West Tampa and the planned improvements along Rome Avenue.
Key features of this segment include:

Protected two-way cycle track and shared-use path along the south side of the historic Columbus Drive bridge and around the southeast corner of Rome Avenue -
New shared lane markings on the westbound Columbus Drive bridge -
New, high emphasis crosswalks at the south leg of North Riverside Drive -
Curb and sidewalk improvements -
Improved access management -
Americans with Disabilities (ADA) enhancements
Segment 6
Segment 6 - Ridgewood Park

N. Glenwood Drive, W. Ross Avenue, North Boulevard, and W. 7th Avenue
This segment provides approximately 0.4 miles of bicycle boulevard and new multi-use trail and safety enhancements in the Ridgewood Park neighborhood from West Columbus Drive south on Glenwood Dr. to a new high-emphasis crosswalk with pedestrian beacon at Ross Avenue to ultimately connect with the existing East Riverwalk on W. 7th Avenue.
Key features of this segment include:

New bicycle boulevard with shared lane markings and bollards on N. Glenwood Drive -
New 12-foot wide concrete, multi-use trail along North Boulevard including new gravity wall, and crosswalk at 7th Ave. connecting to existing Riverwalk -
New 12-foot wide concrete, multi-use trail along the south side of Ross Avenue -
New high-emphasis crosswalk with pedestrian beacon at Ross Avenue crossing to Glenwood Drive -
Americans for Disability Act (ADA) enhancements -
“Dark Skies” friendly trail lighting
